Patek Philippe is celebrating the bird of light and enlightenment with a poetic new limited edition. The white swan inhabits numerous legends and now graces the dial of just ten exclusive watches. Crafted in rose gold, this timepiece serves as a rare canvas for the ancient art of wood marquetry.
The portrait is notable for the expressive glance of the bird which brings the subject to life. To achieve this level of realism the marquetry maker cut out and assembled 93 distinct veneer parts. These were combined with 30 tiny inlays that together span an impressive 18 different species of wood.
Delicate shading accentuates the impression of volume and relief in the plumage. This effect is obtained by lightly scorching the wood to create natural shadows. An inlay in wood adorned with gold leaf forms a shimmering background that elevates the entire composition. Beneath this artistic surface houses the caliber 240 ultra-thin self-winding movement which may be admired through a sapphire crystal case back.
