This timepiece represents a mechanical and creative fusion between Ulysse Nardin and URWERK.
For the first time, these two pioneers of modern watchmaking have collaborated to create a limited edition that reimagines one of the most important contemporary contributions to horology. The result is a visual spectacle where the iconic wandering hour satellite of URWERK meets the rotational mastery of the Ulysse Nardin Freak.
The aesthetic of the UR-FREAK is undeniably architectural and steeped in a futuristic allure. The 44mm case is rendered in a deep anthracite gray sandblasted titanium which serves as a moody canvas for the design. This monochromatic foundation is electrified by the use of URWERK’s emblematic yellow Pantone 395 C. This vibrant hue highlights the satellite pointers and minute markers while also saturating the bespoke rubber strap in a shade that demands attention. The design maintains the signature Freak absence of a traditional crown to ensure a streamlined silhouette on the wrist.
The genius of this collaboration lies in how two complex mechanisms are fused into a single and fully integrated in-house caliber known as the UN-241. The mechanics truly define the design as the movement itself rotates to tell the time. The time is indicated by a wandering hour satellite system that bends mechanics and reshapes the perception of time itself. A silicon balance wheel oscillator takes center stage in the display and makes a full rotation every three hours. This is powered by the innovative Grinder automatic winding system which converts even the smallest wrist movement into kinetic energy.
This partnership is rooted in a shared history of defying convention that dates back to the turn of the millennium. The original Ulysse Nardin Freak debuted in 2001 just four years after URWERK was founded in 1997. Both brands emerged during a prodigious era for the industry and shared a mission to inject modern forms and materials into traditional high-end watchmaking. Ulysse Nardin pioneered the use of silicon technology in 2001 before any other watchmaker. That legacy continues here with the use of DiamonSil for the escapement wheel and anchor to ensure durability and precision.
