KENZO releases first limited-edition drop for Spring-Summer 2022 under Artistic Director Nigo.
Under the artistic direction of Nigo, KENZO releases the first in a series of limited-edition capsule collections for Spring-Summer 2022. The drop coincides with the designer’s debut runway show for the Maison last January, with three additional drops to follow. Following Nigo’s appointment as Artistic Director in September 2021, the garments mark his first designs for KENZO.
The capsule collection translates the bold energy of KENZO’s genetics through the simplified graphic language of Nigo. The boke, a Japanese flower that blooms in February, adorns two five-piece wardrobes designed for women and men, respectively, but both genderless in spirit.
A red boke graphic emblazoned with a new KENZO logo created by Nigo adorns nylon coach jackets in navy, crewneck sweatshirts, a jersey cardigan, and long-sleeve t-shirts. An oversized hoodie represents the unrestrictive silhouette of the collection, which also includes a gurkha-inspired cargo trouser and a cargo skirt in Japanese washed cotton twill. Next to the garments, a blanket features the boke logo. The drop is largely retained in white as a nod to the image of a blank page: new beginnings.
As precursors to a reinvigorated KENZO, the Spring-Summer 2022 capsule collections embody the philosophy at the root of Nigo’s practice at the Maison: a real wardrobe for the future, tied to the wisdom of the past. In homage to Kenzo Takada, each drop revolves around the idea of the natural elements key to the legacy of the founder. Expanding on the form and function of these motifs, Nigo draws on the Japanese sensibility of flora and fauna as signifiers of symbols and feelings.
Limited-edition capsule available from 5 February 2022 in selected stores and KENZO.COM
