Audemars Piguet Unveils the Hotel des Horlogers
By SENATUS Magazine | 1 May 2018

Audemars Piguet has unveiled the plans for an impressive 70,000 square-foot-hotel currently undergoing construction and set to open to the public in 2020. Named Hotel des Horlogers, it will be located next to the brand's existing museum in the Vallée de Joux, Switzerland, and will be made up of five interconnecting sections housing 50 rooms.

Designed by the BIG-Bjarke Ingels Group in collaboration with Cche Architecture, the highlight of the building is its a zig-zag shape integrated into the surrounding valley. 6,500 square meter in size, five angled interconnecting pieces softly tilted to merge into a continuous exterior path from roof to ground, invites guests to descend on skis towards the trails of the Valle de Joux. These stacked slabs also gently unfold to form terraces overlooking the landscape.

The journey from roof to landscape concludes at the Watchmaker's Path, a route inspired by the historical journey from Vallee de Joux to Geneva. The path forms a connection between the hotel and nearby spiral-shaped Musée Atelier, creating a dialogue between two architectural landmarks.

Inside, the five slabs form a single corridor connecting bedrooms for visitor and service circulation. Underneath the slabs, a bar, spa, conference center and restaurant are orientated towards the valley, taking advantage of sweeping views and natural light, while also acting as individual destinations along the sloping path.
