Michelin Guide Launches in Shanghai
By SENATUS Dining | 22 September 2016

Yesterday saw the launch of the 2017 Michelin Guide Shanghai with a total of 35 stars awarded to 26 restaurants in its inaugural edition. 25 eateries were given the Bib Gourmand recommendation for offering a good value meal for under RMB200.

Of note was the two-Michelin stars given to Canton 8, becoming the cheapest destination in its category at RMB48 per diner on average.

Ultra Violet by French chef Paul Pairet, 8 ½ Otto e Mezzo Bombana by Italian chef Umberto Bombana (whose branch in Hong Kong has three Michelin stars), L’Atelier de Joel Robuchon (whose branch in Singapore also has two Michelin stars) and Imperial Treasure Fine Chinese Cuisine all received two-Michelin stars.

The only three-starred restaurant in the guide this year is T’ang Court within luxury hotel, The Langham. Its sister restaurant in Hong Kong has three Michelin stars in the 2016 Michelin Guide Hong Kong Macau.

The 2017 Shanghai guide marks the global restaurant guide’s maiden foray into mainland China, and its fifth Asian territority after Japan, Hong Kong and Macau and Singapore. A brand Michelin Guide to Seoul will be released next week.
