Fendi Opens Year-Long Pop-up Store at Ginza in Tokyo
By SENATUS Magazine | 23 November 2015

In celebration of its 50th anniversary in Japan, Fendi has opened an oversized pop-up store for one whole year in the luxury shopping district of Ginza in Tokyo. The venue extends over three levels and retails for the first time in the country, all of the brand's men's and women's collections, from furs to accessories.

The store concept is uniquely inspired by the Palazzo della Civiltà Italiana (Palace of Italian civilisation), a historic rationalist-style building located in Rome's modern EUR district, where Fendi has recently established its headquarters. The Tokyo store's façade features a blue neon rendering of the Rome building's famous arches.

The mood inside is "like that of a theme park" and includes a giant version of the Karlito doll, conceived by Fendi's Creative Director Karl Lagerfeld, next to the famous Italian three-wheel 'Ape' scooters. A pop-up art piece titled 'Fur Tree' has also been created by Japanese artist Makoto Azuma, who specialises in unusual floral compositions, for the occasion.
